Lynchburg Elementary School principal Melissa Eslick (above) reads to LES students on Monday, March 2. March 2 is Dr. Seuss’s birthday.

Each year, the National Education Association celebrates the birthday of the cartoonist and writer who published 60 children’s books, including The Cat in the Hat and Green Eggs and Ham, with Read Across America Day.

Read Across America Day is a nationwide reading celebration. Across the country, thousands of schools, libraries and community centers participate by bringing together kids, teens and books.
