Lady Bucks seek consistency at home this weekend

LYNCHBURG – The Motlow Lady Bucks will have an opportunity to get their first Tennessee Community College Athletic Association (TCCAA) win this weekend when they host a pair of conference opponents at Copperweld Arena.

Motlow will host Dyersburg State on Friday, Jan. 17, with tipoff scheduled for 6 p.m., and Southwest Tennessee on Saturday with a 2 p.m. tip.

The Lady Bucks (1-12, 0-7) are coming off a disappointing 78-42 loss to Lawson State last Saturday in Birmingham. Head Coach Aaron Holland had hoped his team had turned a corner after beating the Martin Methodist JV 90-47 on Jan. 7.

“I was very disappointed in our effort Saturday night,” said Holland. “For some reason we don’t rebound. We refuse to block out and we refuse to be tougher than our opponent. These are issues I thought we had corrected over the break, but we took two steps back.

“We have to learn to give maximum effort all the time,” he continued. “We give it in spurts, but there are times that we just don’t want it bad enough and we get lazy. We are going to practice blocking out and defending this week as we prepare for the remainder of our conference season.”

Erin Thomas and Kaley Rogers each had nine points and two assists to lead the Lady Bucks against Lawson State. Andi LaPietra led Motlow in rebounding with eight and scored four points. Alexis Smith and Bree Horner each had three steals, with Smith adding seven points and seven rebounds and Horner scoring four with four boards.

There is no admission to Motlow College athletic events. Basketball fans throughout Motlow’s 11-county service area are encouraged to support the Bucks and Lady Bucks this weekend.
