Smith, James Howard ‘Red,’ 92, of Lynchburg, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at Southern Tennessee Medical Center in Winchester. A native of Maysville, Ala., Mr. Smith was a son of the late Otis Smith and Mattie Acuff Smith. He was a retired assembly line worker in automobile manufacturing. He was also a US Army Veteran. Mr. Smith enjoyed riding his scooter to the Iron Kettle for breakfast every morning. He is survived by his sister-in-law Deveta Smith of Winchester; nieces Tonita Davis and her husband John of Tullahoma and Sheila Holden and her husband Scott of Winchester; nephew Michael Smith of Alabama; and seven great nephews. He was preceded in death by a niece, Rita Stewart; a sister Genelle Walker; and brothers William and George Smith. The family will receive friends Thursday, Aug. 1 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Lynchburg Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. at the Marble Plains Cemetery with Bro. Jim Fields officiating.
