Crawford, James Barclay, Sr., 84, of Burns, Tenn., passed away Sept. 30, 2013. A native of the Smithland community of Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Judge Taylor Crawford and Lucy Crawford. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nancy Smith Crawford, formerly of Lynchburg. He was an outstanding athlete and both a Golden Glove Boxing Champion and a varsity lineman on Clemson University’s football team. He worked for the Ford Motor Company’s Glass Division, retiring as its chief of quality control. Mr. Crawford is also survived by brothers Walter of Nashville and Frank (Patsy) of Fayetteville; sons, Jim (Suzanne) of Lynchburg and Chris (Mary Beth) of Burns; grandsons Kevin (Trish) Compton of Nashville, Chris (Keli) Compton of Senoia, Ga., Nick (Cassie) Crawford of Little Rock, Ark., Ben Crawford of Nashville, and Jesse Crawford of Asheville, N.C.; as well as three great-grandchildren. Visitation with the family will be Thursday, Oct. 3 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lynchburg Funeral Home. Services will follow immediately at 1 p.m. with Rev. Ron Lowry officiating. Interment will be at the Lynchburg Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Mr. Crawford to the American Red Cross. Lynchburg Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
