Jack Daniel builds barrel stake mill in Alabama

Barrels full of whisky on shelves in the barrel houseAlabama state officials – including Governor Robert Bentley – joined Brown-Forman Cooperage representatives in Jackson County last Thursday to break ground on a new mill devoted to producing white oak staves and heading materials that will be used to produce whiskey barrels.

The mill, at a 55-acre site just north of Stevenson, is expected to be operational in the spring and will employee more than 30 people, according to BF representatives. Brown-Forman Cooperage also operates mills in Jackson, Ohio and Clifton, Tenn.

The company says it picked the Stevenson site because of the plentiful supply of oak trees
