Deal steps down as Ambulance Director

Jason Deal poses in front of an ambulanceEMA Director and Ambulance Service Director Jason Deal submitted his resignation as Ambulance Service Director to Mayor Stewart this week. The Mayor made the announcement during Monday night’s Metro Council meeting.

Deal is stepping down to pursue an opportunity at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville as part of the LifeFlight team – an air ambulance service offered by Vanderbilt within 150 miles of Nashville. Deal will join the team as a flight paramedic.

According to the team’s website, they are Tennessee’s largest not-for-profit air medical transport program, providing service via four helicopters and one fixed wing aircraft. It has kept an accident-free safety record since its inception in 1984.

During the Council meeting, Mayor Stewart named current Ambulance Service Operation Manager Jackie Burton as the interim Ambulance Director.

Deal will stay on as EMA Director.

Following the announcement, Deal received a round of applause.

“This is one outstanding accomplishment for one of our own,” said Mayor Stewart.
