Convenience Center hours have changed

Metropolitan Lynchburg Moore County has revised its hours for the Convenience Center. Following suggestions from posts on Facebook, Mayor Bonnie Lewis said the city has added two late nights, staying open a total of 44 hours per week, which is four more than before. Lewis posted on the city’s new Facebook page that “Bobby Cashion did a great job building up the county’s Solid Waste department. Our new Supervisor Clay Halpain will pick up where he left off and continue to grow the recycling programs while making our trash pay for itself. “Thank you all for your input in this process. Having constructive conversations when change is necessary is helpful. We have to pay for our staff and expenses while staying in budget.” She added that the hours were never meant to force home pickup. “That’s not the case at all. Running garbage trucks is more expensive than employees at the Convenience Center. We are happy to provide the service and want to provide as many options as the budget allows.” Lewis also added recycling is part of the city’s home trash pickup. “This is not a new service and we will be working on ways to fully educate everyone. If customers have recycled items to be picked up (cardboard, cans, plastic and glass) we ask that you set them off to the side of the regular garbage we pick up. Our recycling truck runs the same route as the garbage truck and will pick those items up separately.” The Convenience Center hours now are 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays; 7 a.m.-2 p.m., Tuesdays and Fridays; 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturdays; closed Wednesdays and Sundays
