Class of 2022 Senior Sunrise – The Beginning of the End

It’s the beginning of the end of an era for Moore County High School’s Class of 2022. The countdown is on as the class returns to walk the halls one final year. To commemorate the event, the class members celebrated with a Senior Sunrise.

On Tuesday, August 10th, several class members met behind the high school to partake in the first of many lasts. Here in Lynchburg, the skies often bless us with beautiful mornings. This sunrise did not disappoint. Although an earlier start than usual for the kids, they were all smiles.

Sunrises represent birth, rebirth, and awakenings. For many of these students, this sunrise encompassed all of those. A year from now, these students will all be heading in different directions. Some will go straight into the workforce. Many will still be seen around town as they attend a local college and others may not be seen except for holidays and summers as they travel hundreds of miles away to school. Whichever life path they are heading down, one thing is certain:  these kids are destined to be great.

Behind the smiles and excitement, some of the students are facing conflicting emotions. It is easy to become comfortable in the familiar. For at least 11 years, these students have been accustomed to a school schedule. Facing the new, uncertain aspect of becoming an adult is not something to be taken lightly. It is a lot to think about!

As the mother of a member of the Class of 2022, I can attest that I am having all the feels right now. We have spent almost 18 years preparing our kids and the urge to hold on tighter is hitting me hard. I want to see my child go out into the world and spread his wings; however, I also have that motherly instinct kicking in to keep him close to home to avoid the cruel reality of the world. Parents, every twist and turn of the rollercoaster we are feeling is completely normal. We have laid the groundwork to prepare them for all the upcoming moments. Overall, I am excited and proud of this terrific group of kids we have raised together here in Lynchburg.

The Class of 2022 is coming into their senior year with high hopes for the upcoming special events they will be celebrating throughout the year. One of the biggest being the Powder Puff games. If you haven’t had a chance to see this three-year reining champion class, make sure you come out to support them this fall. The class always puts on an entertaining and exciting show for the crowd. The athleticism, dedication, and tenacity of this group is untouchable!

To all our Moore County Class of 2022 Seniors, we wish you a safe, happy, and FUN year! Make it a year you can look back on with Raider pride. It will be a fond memory before you know it!
