Civil War group meets

Manchester – Maj. Gen. Benjamin F. Cheatham Camp 72 plans their next meeting on Tuesday, July 24 at the Oak Restaurant in Manchester. Dinner will begin at 6 p.m. and at 7 p.m. Commander Williams will open the meeting.

Brent Lokey will speak on Gen. Nathan Bedford’s raid on the Union supply depot at Johnsonville.  Supplies were being unloaded from steamboats to the depot, then transferred to railcars for shipment to Nashville. Forrest captured a Union gunboat and was responsible for torching the depot.

Meetings are open to the general public and all Civil War buffs have a special invitation for the program.   For the latest info on the program, go to www.tennessee-scv.org/camp72/.

Membership in the Sons of Confederate Veterans is open to all males 12 years of age and above who had an ancestor that served honorably in the Confederate Armed Forces or the Confederate Congress and can prove kinship either lineal or collaterally. Help is available to anyone interested in finding and proving kinship.
