The Motlow Bucks battled the nation’s third-ranked team for 50 minutes last Friday evening in the TCCAA/Region VII Tournament semifinals before falling 122-121 to Columbia State in double overtime in Harriman.
The Bucks (14-14) had multiple opportunities to put the Chargers away, leading by as many as 20 points late in the first half, but in the end, a familiar albatross — missed free throws — reared its head. Motlow missed 18, the same as Columbia State.
The Chargers (26-3) were upset in the tournament championship game 81-79 by Walters State. Both teams will advance to the NJCAA Men’s National Championship Tournament, with Walters State receiving the league’s automatic berth and Columbia receiving an at-large invitation.
