Ben Payne Fletcher, Sr. age 88 of Lynchburg, passed away Saturday, March 24 at Lynchburg Nursing Center. Born in Bedford County, he was the son of the late Frank Fletcher and Mary Frances “Marie” Robinson Fletcher. Mr. Fletcher served in the US Army and was a P.O.W. in WWII. He was the UT Agriculture Extension Agent in Moore County for 26 years and was a member of the Lynchburg Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo Clark Fletcher; daughter, Linda (Ronnie) Blanton of Lascassas; sons, Frank (Karen) Fletcher and Benny (Donna) Fletcher of Lynchburg; grandchildren, Felicia Fletcher, Marcia (Harvey) Wilcox, Paul (Robyn) Fletcher, Christopher Fletcher and Kaleigh (Tyler) Hatfield; great grandchildren, Jasmine Wilcox, Jordan Wilcox, Ben Fletcher, Maecy Fletcher and Katy Fletcher. Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 27 at Jennings Moore-Cortner Chapel with Bro. Richard Logan officiating and eulogy by Buddy Koonce. Interment followed at Lynchburg Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Camp Joy, Moore County Library, American Heart Association or the P.O.W. MIA Organization. Jennings Moore-Cortner Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
