Glenn Merchant will share his artwork with the Motlow community for the remaining of March, until April 13 in the Art Gallery of Eoff Hall on the Moore County campus. A special artist’s reception will be held in his honor next Thursday, March 22, from 12 to 3 p.m. The public is invited and there is no admission charge.
The paintings to be displayed are some of his works from 2010 and 2011, and all were made in Tennessee. Merchant is a contemporary painter of the landscape — both suburban and rural. Most of his work is done primarily with oil on canvas. He often uses other drawing mediums like charcoal, graphite or pastel in the process.
Merchant received his bachelor’s of fine arts from Middle Tennessee State University and is the manager of Moxie Art Supply Studio School in Murfreesboro. Moxie opened in the fall of 2010 to provide artists, students and hobbyists with a local resource for fine art materials. They also have workshops for the public, conducted by professional artists from the region.
Merchant said, “I’ve been involved in the art world on many different levels, but first and foremost as a painter, for the last twenty years. I have had the opportunity to assist in two excellent contemporary art galleries in Nashville.” He was the co-director of the Robinson Willis Gallery and a preparatory for Zimmerman Saturn gallery.
