The American Legion will hold their annual Memorial Day Service at the northwest end of the Lynchburg Courthouse near the veteran’s memorial on Monday, May 28 at 11 a.m.

Assistant Adjutant General – Army, Tennessee National Guard, Major General Robert A. Harris will speak. He has over 30 years of service in the U.S. military. Director of Security and Emergency Management at the Pentagon John Harris will also be attending.

Major General Robert A. Harris will make a special presentation of awards to the family members of Frank Wilburn Parks, who was killed as a combat infantryman during World War II on March 19, 1945. The family never received the medals of Parks after his death.

Terry Jenkins, Honor Guard Chairman for Rolling Thunder, Tennessee Chapter 1, will conduct a special POW/MIA presentation in honor of the late Ben Fletcher. Mr. Fletcher was a POW.

Other local veterans will be involved in the Memorial Day ceremony.

“Everyone is invited to join in and support this Memorial Day service together to remember the sacrifices of those who answered their nation’s call. The freedoms that so many Americans enjoy did not come cheaply. They were paid for with the flesh and blood of American servicemen and women and with the tears of those whose lives were changed forever by the loss of a loved one,” said Commander of Moore County Post 192 Billy H. Thomas.
