The 2017 Moore County 4-H Chick Chain Project culminated with the Moore County Poultry Show and Auction in Wiseman Park. 4-H members in the Chick Chain Project bring their record book, one dozen eggs and six hens which they have raised from two day old chicks. The hens and eggs are judged for size and production quality, the record books are judged for accuracy and detail. Chase Maxwell received Grand Champion for his hens. Reserve Champion Hens were raised by Skylar Fanning. The Grand Champion Eggs were brought by Jack Hart and Reserve Champion Eggs were exhibited by Trae Moorehead. Grand prize for record book was earned by Emily Burks and reserve went to brothers Zander and Koale Shuford. Moore County 4-H and Chick Chain participants are grateful to Farmers Bank as well as other attendees who purchased the 4-H’ers laying hens. The sale of the hens will support the purchase of chicks in the spring of 2018. Farm Bureau sponsored the chicken show and with the help of the Moore County Co-Op gave a bag of feed to each participant.
