Raiders Down Huntland

The Raiders took home a 5-3 victory over Huntland on Monday night before a large crowd at Jim Burton field. The win was the Raiders first district win of the year and their first win against Huntland in several years. After playing without their two seniors for the entire week, Coach Deal started his senior battery of Tanner Womble on the mound and Dillon Taylor behind the plate for the Raiders. Huntland lead going into the fourth inning when Jimmy Stewart led off with a base hit. Coy Cashion reached first on an error. Bryson Dobb singled driving in the Raiders first run of the game. With two outs, Mason Pierce singled driving in another run and tying the game at 2. The Raiders added 2 runs in the fifth with backto-back singles from Dillon Knight, Stewart, and Cashion. With two outs, Carson Templeton lined a hit to left field scoring Stewart. Cashion was thrown out on a close play at home as he attempted to score another run. Tanner Womble tossed three innings, surrendering two runs, four hits, and striking out one. Ryder Morey earned the win for Raiders. The Raiders collected ten hits and their defense was solid making only one error.

Tough Loss to Cornersville

The Raiders traveled to Cornersville Friday night and lost a close contest 5-4. The game was tied at four with Cornersville batting in the bottom of the seventh when the Raiders gave up a lead-off walk and hit that allowed Cornersville to score the winning run. Carson Templeton started the game on the mound for the Raiders. He pitched two innings and surrendered three runs on three hits. Dylan Knight took the loss for Raiders pitching four innings and giving up two runs on three hits and striking out four. Coy Cashion led Raiders with two runs batted in.

Raiders Lose to Richland

The Raiders traveled to Richland for a rematch Thursday, April 6. Having lost to Richland 8-7 during the Viking Classic Tournament, the Raiders were unable to avenge their defeat losing 9-6. The visiting Raiders took an early lead as Clay Burnett led off the game with a single was moved to second on a Carson Templeton sacrifice bunt, stole third, and scored on a Jimmy Stewart sacrifice fly. The lead didn’t last long as Richland scored two in the bottom of the first and never trailed again in the game. The Raiders struggled defensively making eight errors but continued to battle, collecting eleven hits to Richland’s four. Cameron Pykiet took the loss for Raiders. Burnett relieved Pykiet in the third and went three innings. Ryder Morey pitched the final inning and struck out three batters. Stewart and Burnett had three hits while Coy Cashion and Templeton collected two hits for the Raiders.
