Elk River – Attractions in Lynchburg, TN

The Elk River in Moore County offers premiere trout fishing.

A tributary of the Tennessee River, the Elk River, which runs through Moore, Grundy, Coffee and Lincoln counties, offers excellent canoeing and some of the most spectacular trout fishing in America.

Some of the best but least well-known fishing holes are located right here in Lynchburg.

Cool waters created by the damming of both Tims Ford and Woods Reservoirs required cold-water species to replace warm-watered ones after the Army Corp of Engineers and Tennessee Valley Authority dammed up the Elk River in the late 1960’s. Since then the state of Tennessee’s trout hatcheries have stocked its waters with rainbow and brown trout – making the Elk River a fisherman’s paradise.

One Moore County business, Tim’s Flies and Lies Outfitters, offers guided fly-fishing tours as well as private lessons and equipment. They are located just off the historic Lynchburg Square.
